Myndin sækir innblástur í suður-kóresku kvikmyndina Jigureul jikyeora! frá árinu 2003. Upphaflega átti leikstjóri þeirrar myndar, Jang Joon-hwan, að leikstýra Bugonia, en hann hætti við af heilsufarsástæðum.

Þó að Alicia Silverstone leiki móður Jesse Plemons er aðeins 12 ára aldursmunur á þeim.
