Plot

Sherlock Holmes er kominn út fyrir þægindarammann. Hann getur á einhvern óútskýrðan hátt ekki rannsakað óhugnanlegt mál án þess að stofna lífi nánustu vina sinna í hættu. Þá kemur hin unga bandaríska Amelia til sögunnar. Eftir dularfullt morð á móður sinni kemst hún að því að faðir hennar, sem er týndur, gæti verið hinn goðsagnakenndi leynilögreglumaður. Þrátt fyrir gjörólíkan bakgrunn og viðhorf verða þau að vinna saman að því að leysa alþjóðlegt samsæri, upplýsa morðið á móður hennar og komast að því með vissu hvort hún sé í raun og veru dóttir Sherlocks.
